Overview:
HP IP console switches provide both local rack mount console access and network accessibility to KVM functions of attached servers. A java applet installed on a Windows or Linux workstation provides network users with high performance KVM access. Users can access applications and screens as if they were standing right in front of the rack. Security for servers is controlled by a database of user names with multiple security levels that is configured and saved on the switch. The HP IP console switch provides keyboard video and mouse (KVM) connections to 16 direct attached servers. Users can tier this switch with legacy Compaq console switches or new expansion modules to support up to 128 servers (8 servers per switch port). The HP IP consoling solution utilizes CAT5 UTP cables between the switch and server facilitating cable routing and allowing for field termination of custom cable lengths. An interface adapter is used to convert the server's PS2 connection to RJ45. The HP IP consoling solution provides KVM access to any server with standard PS2 keyboard video and mouse connection allowing a single switch to support a variety of device brands from one local console or over a LAN. The IP console switching solution does not require the installation of any software on the attached servers allowing users to connect a single switch to servers running a variety of operating systems.
